Satellite Dish Disecq motor controlled from two locations

Attention Diseqc motor manufacturers and distributors.

Sometimes we are asked, if it is possible to use a Diseqc USALS motorised satellite dish and control it from more than one room. Currently, however, there doesn’t seem to be an easy to use solution for this.

One method that we know of and have tried is using the IF output of the main receiver fed to a second one in a separate room.

Another  method is to use a Linux satellite receiver in the main room and log onto its web interface from a 2nd room using a laptop web browser for example.

Another method is to obtain 2nd remote control for the main receiver, feed its RF output to a television in the 2nd room, and use a remote control IR link over the cabling to control the main receiver from the 2nd location.

What would be ideal though, is a Satellite Diseqc USALS (or Goto X) motor that had an in-built in capability to connect two satellite receivers and a twin LNB to it. That is, a motor with four connections on it, with built in logic and diseqc docoder so that the diseqc commands from both receivers can be ‘OR ed’ together, so that either receiver can be used to control the dish without the user having to think about too much.

So, come on motor manufacturers designers, how about making a twin input diseqc motor.
