DECT Phone causing interference to satellite TV reception ?

December 22, 2009 · Filed Under Technical · Comments Off

If you are having reception problems with some satellite TV channels, one of the things to check is that it isn’t your cordless DECT phone causing it.

DECT Frquencies are 1880 to 1900 MHz

Hi band problems:-

12480 to 12500 MHz (10600 MHz LO) IF is 1880 to 1900 MHz

Lo band problems:-

11630 to 11650 MHz (9750 MHz LO) IF is 1880 to 1900 MHz

For example if the interference occurs on a channel that is on 11642 MHz for example, the LNB will down-convert it to an IF frequency of 1892 MHz, which is right in the middle of the DECT band. Poor screening and/or DECT equipment too close, could cause problems.

Satelite Systems- Where to Start?

October 4, 2008 · Filed Under Technical · Comments Off

At the suggestion of a customer this page has been set up for those who want to ‘get into’ satellite TV, but not quite sure where to start. This page will frequently be upated and if there are any suggestions of what to add then please Contact Us and we will do our best to add them.

Satellite Terms

DiSEqC- Digital Satellite Equipment Control. This is a system that is used to control varuious satellite components, such as switches and motors. It comes in three main types, DiSEqC 1.0, DiSEqC 1.1 and DiSEqC 1.2. The first two are to control switches and DiSEqC 1.2 is used for motors. All control signals are sent up a single coaxial cable which is fed from the LNB

USALS- Universal Satellites Automatic Location System.

This is a piece of software, that uses the DiSEqC system to control a DiSEqC motor. Instead of having to manually drive the motor round to find the satellites, the USALS software will calculate where to move the motor based on the installation site location. It is much easier to use than DiSEqC 1.2 alone.

LNB - Low Noise Block downcoverter. The is the object on the end of the arm on the dish. It collects the signal from the dish and coverts it from ku band down to a much lowe frequency suitable for sending down a coaxial cable to a receiver.
